In the book, The Slippery Slope, in chapter seven, Klaus, Violet, and the scout with the decorative sweater all climbed up the Vertical Flame Diversion and found themselves in a hallway leading to the Vernacularly Fastened Door, which would open to the headquarters kitchen. The Vernacularly Fastened Door has three passwords that are changed everyday so it is kept secret. The Vernacularly fastened door passwords were "SIRISSACNEWTON," "PANTHERALEO", and "is that a rural life of moral simplicity, despite its monotony, is the preferable personal narrative to a daring life of impulsive passion, which only leads to tragedy." This is important because with all the passwords the 3 kids can find out who the survivor from the fires was. This part of the story does not conflict with any of the characters. This part of the story tells a lot about the characters because it shows that the kids are intelligent and listen to what they were taught. This part of the story does not help create the theme or the universal theme. The characters are happy because they found out all the passwords to the questions to get to the V.F.D. headquarters. This part of the story is part of the Rising Action. On page 144, it states,"That's what I read," the scout confirmed, looking at a page in his notebook. "You're supposed to type in three specific phrases in a row. The phrases change every season, so volunteers need to have a lot of information at their finger tips to use this door. The first is the name of the scientist most widely credited with the discovery of gravity. "That's easy," Violet said and typed the in S-I-R-I-S-A-A-C-N-E-W-T-O-N, the name of the physicist she had always admired." On page 144, it says,"The second is the Latin name for the Volunteer Feline Detectives, " the scout said. "I found the answer in Remarkable Phenomena of the Mortmain Mountains. It's Panthera leo." He leaned forward and typed in P-A-N-T-H-E-R-A-L-E-O." I predict that the 3 kids will find to be no one left in the V.F.D headquarters.
