An important part in the book "Wonder" is when August's sister see's August as a baby at the hospital. This scene is important because Olivia the sister has to adapt to how August looks and she would get mad when people just stared at her brother. This part creates a little bit of conflict because Olivia starts arguing with the people staring at her brother. Olivia is surprised to see her brother and get all angry when people stare at her brother because August does not have a normal face and when people stare at him Olivia gets ticked off. This is at the Rising Action because it is just details getting into how August gets treated. "I knew he didnt look exactly normal, but I really didn't understand why strangers seemed so shocked when they saw him. Horrified. Scared. Sickened." (85) "There are so many words I can use to describe the looks on people's faces. ANd for a long time I didn't get it. I'd just get mad. Mad when they stared. Mad when they looked away. "what the heck are you looking at?" I'd say to people- even grown-ups." (85) I predict no one is going to want to be August's friend until they really get to know him and spend time with him.

An important scene in the book "Wonder" is when the main character August (Auggie) is going to meet his new principal, at his new school, and take a tour. This scene is important because August is a kid that does not have a normal face and he has been homeschooled all of his life because he didn't want people to see his face. August kind of makes a scene because he was going to take a tour around the school campus with 3 kids from school, and 2 of the 3 kids are nice and the other one is mostly like a bully. The characteristcs that August shows are being shy and non-confident about his facebecause in the tour August always had his face faceing the ground. August is really shy when he meets the principale but he was also really nervous. August was also shy when he went on the tour with the 3 other kids. This part of the amazong story is at the rising action. "I was about to say something else, but then all of sudden I heard other voices outside the office: kids' voices. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but my heart literally started beating like I'd just run the longest race in the world. The laughter I had inside just poured out of me." (20) "What's the deal with your face? I mean, were you in a fire or something? "Julian that is so rude!" said Charlotte. "I'm not being rude," said Julian, "I'm just asking a question, Mr. Tushman said we could ask questions if we wanted to." "Not rude questions like thst," said Charlotte. "Besides he was born like that. That's what Mr. Tushman said. You just weren't listening." "I was so listening!" said Julian. "I just thought maybe he was in a fire too." "Geez, Julian, said Jack. "Just shut up." I predict that people won't like August because of his face but will grow to like him as the year develops. The universal theme of the story is to do anything for your family even when you will get in conflicts for it. The universal theme is also change because the youngest of the Baudelaire children changed when she was with the villainous man, Count Olaf. Being in the clutches of Count Olaf has really changed Sunny because since she is the youngest they expect her to stay small but she has really grown and found her special talent when she was with Count Olaf. Even when Sunny was small she saw her mother cook and learned about the appearance of the food and looks can make you try something, so when Sunny had to cook dinner for the villains, she remembered the appearance no matter how good or bad it might be. This stories gate icon is contribution because the other Baudelaire children risked their lives for the youngest child and used their great minds to rescue Sunny from Count Olaf. Violet and Klaus also contributed by they risking everything for Sunny because they had to climb a steep, ice, cold waterfall where they could fall to their death so they could save their little sister. Sunny also contributed because she had to cook for the villains and volunteered to stay to spy on the villains so the villains could never be a hold of people houses, any children, their families, and their fortunes. Change happens in our lives because we would do anything for our families like the children did in this book, change also occurs when you have a difference to make in others peoples lives. Everyone contributes to other people's lives by simply caring for them and taking care of each other when you have almost nothing,. The Baudelaire children had nothing when they went to rescue their sister but they used their resources to help save her, this relates to our lives because we can use our resources to do something for someone else. The theme statement means to contribute a little of you to make someone else's life better and change because you can accomplish something better when you become more mature. According to page 227 and 228, it states,”I’m not a baby,” Sunny said, and hugged her. It was the longest sentence the youngest Baudelaire had ever said, and as Violet looked down at her sister, she saw how true it was. Sunny was not really a baby, not anymore. She was a young girl with unusually sharp teeth, some impressive cooking skills, and an opportunity to spy on a group of villains and discover a piece of crucial information. Sometime, during the unfortunate events that had befallen the three orphans, Sunny had grown out of her babyhood, and although it made Violet a bit sad to think about it, it made her proud, too, and she gave her sister smile.” This relates to change because Sunny went from being a little baby to growing up and doing amazing things, like cooking, and showing her skills. In the book, the Slippery Slope, by Lemony Snicket, the main characters are Count Olaf, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. Violet is the oldest child in the Baudelaire family and she is important because she is the engineering person who makes her own inventions to get her siblings out of trouble. Klaus is the second oldest, and he is important because he is very smart, loves to read books, and he memorizes la lot information., to help him out in the future. Klaus also likes to learn new knowledge from something that happened in the past. Sunny is the youngest of the Baudelaire children, and she is important because she helps all three of them stick together and work as a team. Sunny is also the cook out of all three of them. Count Olaf is the villain who always has wanted to steal the fortune of the Baudelaire children, he even burned down the mansion of the children and murdered the Baudelaires parents. Violet is a static person who doesn’t change, is shy, inventive, curious, and economical when it comes to getting her siblings out of trouble from the villain count Olaf. On page 195, it states,”the waterfall will be very slippery,” Volet explained,”so I am using the Ukulele strings to tie these bent forks to the toe area, to make fork-assisted climbing shoes. We’ll hold two more forks in our hands. Tines of the forks are almost as sharp as Sunny’s teeth, so the fork-assisted climbing shoes will easily dig into the ice with each step, and enable us to keep our balance.” Klaus is a static person who doesn’t change, smart, out of the ordinary, curious, passion for researching, and is a knowledge seeker because according to page 191 it states,”Unless you need any further assistance,” he said, “I think I might go examine the wreckage of the library and see if any of the documents have survived. We might as well learn as much from this headquarters as we can.” Sunny is brilliant, hardworking for a three year old, Sunny is a static person who never changes but is still kind-hearted and does anything to help out with her siblings. Count Olaf is a no good, evil person who would do anything for a lot of money, and he is a dynamic person because he changes his whole appearance to try to get the Baudelaire fortune.
In the book, The Slippery Slope, in chapter seven, Klaus, Violet, and the scout with the decorative sweater all climbed up the Vertical Flame Diversion and found themselves in a hallway leading to the Vernacularly Fastened Door, which would open to the headquarters kitchen. The Vernacularly Fastened Door has three passwords that are changed everyday so it is kept secret. The Vernacularly fastened door passwords were "SIRISSACNEWTON," "PANTHERALEO", and "is that a rural life of moral simplicity, despite its monotony, is the preferable personal narrative to a daring life of impulsive passion, which only leads to tragedy." This is important because with all the passwords the 3 kids can find out who the survivor from the fires was. This part of the story does not conflict with any of the characters. This part of the story tells a lot about the characters because it shows that the kids are intelligent and listen to what they were taught. This part of the story does not help create the theme or the universal theme. The characters are happy because they found out all the passwords to the questions to get to the V.F.D. headquarters. This part of the story is part of the Rising Action. On page 144, it states,"That's what I read," the scout confirmed, looking at a page in his notebook. "You're supposed to type in three specific phrases in a row. The phrases change every season, so volunteers need to have a lot of information at their finger tips to use this door. The first is the name of the scientist most widely credited with the discovery of gravity. "That's easy," Violet said and typed the in S-I-R-I-S-A-A-C-N-E-W-T-O-N, the name of the physicist she had always admired." On page 144, it says,"The second is the Latin name for the Volunteer Feline Detectives, " the scout said. "I found the answer in Remarkable Phenomena of the Mortmain Mountains. It's Panthera leo." He leaned forward and typed in P-A-N-T-H-E-R-A-L-E-O." I predict that the 3 kids will find to be no one left in the V.F.D headquarters.
In the fictional story, Slippery Slope, by Lemony Snicket, the villains go to the mountains where there is a frozen waterfall and make a toddler do all the chores, the toddler needed to make the villains breakfast and lunch. This scene is important because the toddler will be able to see if her brother and sister will come find her, so the toddler looks down at everything near the waterfall to see when and where her brother and sister were. It creates a problem because the villains will get suspicious about the toddler continuing to looking down at the waterfall once in awhile. Sunny the toddler finally see’s her siblings come to get her and she looked really happy that the villains got really suspicious that Sunny was looking down at the frozen waterfall. This part of the story is part of the rising action because Sunny see’s her siblings but her siblings haven’t rescued her yet from the villains. In the book, it says on page 60 and 61, “Like many streams, the stricken stream originated within the rocks of the mountains and in the warmer season, Sunny could see that it cascaded down from the highest peak and an enormous waterfall. But this was not a warm time of year, and just as Sunny’s tears had frozen on her face, the waterfall had frozen solid, into a long, slippery slope that disappeared into the darkness below.” According to page 63, it says, ”She wouldn’t dare,” Count Olaf said, “and even if she tried to survive in the mountains by herself, we could see where she went. That's why we're staying here at the summit. We’ll know if the brat escapes or if anyone's coming after us, because we can see everything and everyone for miles and miles.” I predict that Sunny’s siblings, Klaus her brother and her sister Violet, will rescue Sunny from Count Olaf and his troupe, the villains. |
